Documentary:Reflection of project.
This project has been a new experience for me having never made a documentary film before. With that said I feel I could have done a lot more to make our project successful, however I took on work from other roles within our group due to the fact that members of my group were simply not doing it. I should probably have tried harder to motivate others to work but having taken a lead role in the majority of my previous productions I just found myself doing a large amount of the post-production as well as trying to do the planning (although relevetively unsuccessfuly). The photographs we used in our film were done by me using a Canon 500D and i think the quality of those images are of a good standard and help the project visually. In terms of the edit I am resposible for the opening sequence and the general structure of the film as well as the positioning and cutting fo the interview. I do not feel I have done a particularly good job on this however I think I was limited by the amount of diversity in our footage, of which there was little. I conducted the interviews myself, with the exception of the vox pops on the beach. I did this by contacting people I knew had an interest in our topic from the local sheffield area as our contacts in Liverpool fell through and decided they were not avaliable. I used tie clip mics and a Marantz 660 for the interviews which I think gave me a good quality recording that was clear although my subjects gave very long answers which I felt the need to cut. Having completed this project I feel that we could ahve used the extra dialogue but as always time management became a major issue ad we simply ran out of time. I did spent more than my fair share of time trying to get the work finished but ti became complicated when I was relying on memebers of my group to bring material in, subsequently meaning I spent quite a bit of time waiting around. I willt ake this project as a learning experience and in future projects definatley attempt to stick to my own production role better as well as making sure to give myself enough time to properly fulfill the brief, both creatively and technically.
