Experimental: Real Dream Influences

So we want our dream sequences to be based on real dreams that we've had, this approach will make the project very personal to each of us as well as a lot of fun trying to visualize what we can remember experiencing in the dreams. For me, I focused on two dreams from my childhood, what I call the Sun Dream and the Covers Dream.

The Sun Dream

Okay so this particular dream occurred when I was 16 years old, it was a strange dream as it consisted utterly of me staring at the sun. I was totally alone in the dream (I rarely dream about other people) and was switching from my first-person perspective of the really bright light being broken up by a tree's branches to a view as if directly above where I was laying; looking back at me. It was a reflective dream, I remember that there was speech but I cannot pinpoint what was said, I also remember thinking that the sun has lost a lot of it's strength (as I was able to look at it without burning my eyes out). I personally feel that this dream was inspired by Yosemite National Park in California, which I had recently visited as it was incredibly bright and the green grass / natural surroundings reminded me of the tranquility of that place. It was a very warm dream and I remember it fondly.

The Covers Dream

This dream is something I actually experience fairly regularly and definitely stems from a childhood game me and my sister used to play when we were about 6. The game itself, wasn't really a game, all we did was undo the sheets on our duvet and climb inside, it was really comfy in there and we used to play board games and take it in turns to use our gameboy. I guess I just remember that as a great time in my life, kind of care-free and innocent, which is why I continue to have similar dreams to this day. I understand how the imagery of being surrounded by covers can seem womb-like and reflect as sense of comfort and safety. These are the ideas I want t convey in our film when we use this dream as I want it to be the place our character returns to when things get too hectic elsewhere.
