Mjor Project Development: 5-7 Minute Brief

I have been given my brief for the short film by my tutors, my main project tutor is Susannah Gent. My brief is as follows:

"Create a non-narrative piece which draws its inspiration from the work of Derek Jarman
and Patrick Keiller, exploring how humanity creates and relates to its gods."

I am happy with this brief and will begin watching the films of Derek Jarman and Patrick Keiller as well as explore other experimental films and directors. My initial reaction to this brief is to steer away from portraying God as a particular entity or character, instead exploring the idea of God being portrayed as he is, absent. In this sense I want to consider the themes of Faith and Doubt without singling out one particular religious belief or alienating part of my audience through preachy religious imagery. I like the idea of personifying my protagonist's faith and doubt, placing the audience inside his head as a way of allowing them to empathise yet not be clear of my protagonist's motives.
