Creative Project Realisation : Fixed Angle Long Takes

Part of the concept of my film installation is the fixed angle long takes of each room. I am really interested in films that pull this off well, the most notable director I draw inspiration from is Kubrick.
Here is the 'Dawn of Man' part of 2001: A Space Odyssey which i found particularly relevant to my project as there is no dialogue and all emotion is expressed through action and sound. The long takes in this sequence really help define the mood of the film as well as give a vast amount of depth to each shot.

Here is a still of my favourite shot from this sequence, Kubrick is suggesting that mankind is evolving and the literal sun in the shot helps aid the whole 'dawn of man' metaphor. The shot is full of ambiguity but is held together by great sound which really evokes a sense that what the audience i seeing is important to the plot. In a sense Kubrick is able to make a character of the monolith which is something i'd like to attempt with my inanimate props within my film.

Another shot I really love isn't static but I feel is a great influence on my work due to the use of sound to great great tension and also includes the colour bars. The shot comes from Requiem For A Dream and comes at a melting point in the movie for Ellen Burstyn's character. The colour Bars represent her inability to cope with her live anymore as she has spiralled truly out of control.
