Creative Project Realisation : Sound Ideas & Influences

Sound will play an integral role in my installation. I want to involve the audience in each scene and make sure they get the right tone from it. To that extent I think my music will reflect the emotions of each room.

Fear Room - Ominous synths with low rumblings that build to a point of great tension
 - Foley
             Breathing
             Scratching sound
             Distant groans
             Loud Shrieks
Sharp string twangs (like a violin)
             Crying / moaning

Tranquility Room - Calm and relaxing music, peaceful yet slow piano & strings
 - Foley
            Exhales
            Birds twittering
            Water pouring (waterfall)
            Atmosphere of woodland

Envy / Vanity Room - low drones, and really high strings, orchestral sounds, some crashing and smashing
 - Foley
            Laughter
            Reaction to icy col water
            Constant Murmuring
            Jeering, booing
            Main character shouts
            Monster sounds
            Whimpering Dog sound

Stress Room - Uncomfortable screeching, Sine Wave, hard to concentrate sounds, low drums
 - Foley
            Pacing Foot steps
            Clocks ticking constantly
Rocking back and forth on a chair
            Angry voices
Paper being thrown / dropped / scrunched
            Frantic writing

Anger / Passion Room - Booming raging music, contrasted with warm chords and harps, war drum sounds
 - Foley
           Music box music
           Stampede of feet
           Lighter flicks that doesn't work
           Low gurgling sounds
           The man's fury / mutterings
           Smashing sounds
           Sharp cut sound
           Man in pain
           Crying
           Slamming table with fist

Intelligence Room - Warm, cheerful beat. Reversed guitars
 - Foley
           Muffled chatter
           Sounds of things being moved
           Shuffling paper
           Cheerful laughter
           Sigh of content
           Smoking
           Successful lighter sound
           Flame

I have placed foley sounds in their most appropriate scene but I will probably mix them around in order to get a fuller sound.

In terms of sound influence I listened an awful lot to Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works II which is a very chilled out yet quite haunting album. It is electronica music and when the album title says ambient it isn't joking around.

I have also taken a lot of inspiration from a producer called Burial, who makes music that is hard to define to genre. A particular track; Forgive has had a huge effect on my ideas for the music of this film.
