My idea is focused on a film installation. What I aim to create is an
immersive experience that makes use of six televisions in an exhibition
space. Each screen is a colour from the NTSC/PAL colour bar image often
used in broadcasting and film.My aim is to portray a sense of identity
through a fixed angle shot of a man in a room. I will film six different scenes, each one reflecting a colour and a mood of a particular human emotion
e.g. Fear. The idea here is to convey a sense of the man's identity as a
whole by simultaneously playing each video on one of the televisions,
creating a montage of sound as well as giving the viewer the chance to
go and focus on a particular aspect of the man's personality. Ultimately
I want to bring the question of identity back to the viewer and
synchronise the televisions at the end of the last room scene in order
to pan back to show the man viewing himself on all the screens at once.
This ending asks the viewer to look inside themselves and figure out
their own identity and sense of self.
Here is a really simple example of what I would like my Installation to look like. As you can see the TVs are curved around the room. I would like them to be bigger than is shown in the image as it is not to scale. From left to right we have the colour bars in order and they will play each colour once and at a different time to the others so that all rooms are shown on each TV before the last room scene syncs at the end (The man always sits back down at the table) so that i can transition all the TVs at once to the final scene where the man is revealed to be watching himself. This is all important for both the aesthetic and conceptual ideas I want to convey.
